Australia Movie Review

From a far land a woman named Sarah Ashley (Nicole Kidman) embarks on a journey to a land called Australia to confront his Husband upon having a thought that he is cheating on her. On her travel to Australia, she met a Cattleman called Drover (Hugh Jackman), a person who is a complete opposite of herself and a kid named Nullah (Brandon Walters), a half-Aboriginal, half-Caucasian boy who is thorn by racial segregation. But as Sarah reached Faraway Downs, what she is about to witness is just a part of a bigger calling that will change not only her life but also the life of the people of the land down under.

From the director of Moulin Rouge! and Romeo and Juliet, Baz Luhrmann had created another touching film assembling a stellar cast including David Wenham (“300,” “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy), Bryan Brown (“Breaker Morant,” “The Thorn Birds”), Jack Thompson (“Breaker Morant,” “The Good German”), David Gulpilil (“Walkabout,” “Crocodile Dundee”), David Ngoombujarra (“Rabbit Proof Fence,” “Ned Kelly”) and introducing 13 year-old newcomer Brandon Walters as Nullah.

Since Moulin Rouge!, Baz Luhrmann never failed to amaze me on making such film that incorporates all aspects of a movie. He has this ability to touch his audience's heart regardless of their film preferences. The chemistry among the actors are well defined specially for the three lead roles of Nicole Kidman, Hugh Jackman and Brandon Walters. Though from the very start, I'm already not worried of the outcome of Jackman and Kidman's performance, Walters on the other hand left me so amazed and contented despite being a new comer.

The story is straight forward though you may find yourself lost in some scenes. And there are so many symbolism that you may find and interpret on different ways. Because this is a war movie, you may find yourself asking your seatmate what the character just said because of the noise generated by explosions and screams. But beyond that, the film is a movie worthy of your time and money.

Australia is presented by 20th Century Fox.
