Just got the news that our very own Brillante Mendoza bagged the Best Director award on the recently concluded Cannes Film Festival for his Masterpiece "Kinatay". He beat big names from Hollywood namely Jane Campion (The Piano), Ang Lee (Sense and Sensibility, Brokeback Mountain), Pedro Almodovar (All About My Mother) and Quentin Tarantino (Pulp Fiction).
For now I still can't comment about the movie since I haven't watch it. I will surely watch the film the moment it premieres on local cinemas. Indeed another filipino had given us pride and honor. “Kinatay's” premise mainly depicts the reality of the city streets in the Philippines. It features corrupt cops of all sizes that killed a prostitute in a very brutal way. The movie stars Coco Martin with a supporting cast that include Mercedes Cabral (Serbis), Maria Isabel Lopez, Lauren Novero (Troika) and John Regala.
Brillante Mendoza didn't only gave us the pride but also marks the history when Filipinos first won in Cannes Film Festival.
