The Search for Ga'Hoole: The Legend of the Guardians Movie Review

Last August I was invited on a special screening of Legend of the Guardians Sneak Peek. It is an almost 15 minute primer that screened prior to the movie Cats and Dogs. Since most of the scenes are showed on that night, the bar of expectations are eventually heightened. So I'm really expecting something epic for this movie. And the fact that this is Snyder's first family friendly flick, I'm worried that he will fail.

But unfortunately, Snyder surprised us. Legend of the Guardians is indeed an epic. Though the story is based on a classic good versus evil, kingdoms versus kingdom, evil warriors versus divine Royalty and its Knights fashion, predictability of it is easily forgiven by marvelous fight scenes that you will never ever think owls can do.

The characters are also lovable. Like what I've said on my sneak peek review, despite the owls looking closely like each other the character designer had managed to create different personalities making every character stand out among others.

3D and CGI technology is pushed to the limits on this film. With Avatar setting the standards, this masterpiece had used all the potential of a CGI film being able to blow up small creatures to larger than life epic proportions.

Summing it up, Legend of the Guardians is as stunning offering from Warner Bros.   From an R rated director like Snyder, this kid friendly flick is highly recommended to everyone specially those who have taste on epic fantasy adventure movies.

The film features the voices of Helen Mirren, Geoffrey Rush, Jim Sturgess, Hugo Weaving, Emily Barclay, Abbie Cornish, Ryan Kwanten, Anthony LaPaglia, Miriam Margolyes, Sam Neill, Richard Roxburgh and David Wenham.   Directed by Zack Snyder, from the screenplay of John Orloff and Emil Stern and based on the book written by Kathryn Lasky. Opening nationwide in theatres and IMAX starting September 24, 2010, the film will be presented in 3D and distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company, and in select territories by Village Roadshow Pictures.
