After making us laugh last September, the legion of demigods from Mount Olympus are back for another round of hilarious show before Yuletide season.
Premise:
Adapted from a classic movie starring Olivia Newton John as Kira, Michael Beck as Sonny Malone and Gene Kelly as Danny Maguire Xanadu Musical is a reimagination of the original classic movie created in 1980.
After several years of being a cult classic and became well known because of its trademark roller disco format, people demanded for a remake but this time on stage. So Xanadu the Musical opened on Broadway in 2007 and ran for over 500 performances. It also received Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Musical and a Drama Desk Award for Best Book.
According to Carter Beane rewriting Xanadu is hard and at the same time a good chance to right all the wrongs of the franchise. This time, getting more of his inspiration from Clash of the Titans film, Xanadu the Musical focuses more on Clio and her life in Olympus contrast to the movie which is more focused on Sonny. More characters are added like the Evil sister muses and off course this show is now more of a comedy compared to the almost serious tone of the film.
