Before we witness X-Men's dark origins, I think we first need to be acquainted with Xavier's new students.  Let's start with two of the eldest members: Raven Darkholme aka Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence) and Henry "Hank" McCoy aka The Beast (Nicholas Hoult).  Here are some files straight from Professor Charle's (James McAvoy) Cerebro documenting the mutants' primary details.

Real Name: Dr. Henry Philip McCoy
Alias: The Beast
Abilities/Mutation: Enhanced Intellect, agility and strength, Mutated Ape-like feet
Cerebro Notes: 
Hank is currently working as a scientist for the government's secret service for military research.  Though known to be a mutant activist, he somehow envy others and wants to experience being normal.  He is now secretly formulating a cure that will cure him and other mutants.

Real Name: Raven Darkholme
Alias: Mystique
Abilities/Mutation:  Metamorph, enhanced strength and rapid cell regeneration
Cerebro Notes:
Raven appears to be close to Charles Xavier.  She is also seen attracted to Hank but not sure if this is just an effect of the boy's ability.  Like any mutants on the class including Charles' best friend Erik, she experienced a dark past with humans instilling hatred
