After the big and sensational success of Dexter Santos' Rizal X, Dulaang UP is back for yet another show for its current season with Titus Andronicus: Tinarantadong Asintado.
Like DUP's past show Amphitryon, Titus Andronicus: Tinarantadong Asintado is a filipino adaptation of William Shakespeare's famous tragedy with the same title which is believed to be written between 1588 and 1593. Playwright Layeta Bucoy (Las Mentiras de Gloria) adapted the tragedy and created a modernized version of Shakespeare's masterpiece blending with contemporary local society.
Premise:
Clarrisa, a widow of the former mayor, plots revenge against former military man Armando, who killed her son in an incident in town. Armando, who now forges an alliance with the Torreses, the ruling political family, is unaware of the plan, until his only daughter, Salve, confesses to becoming a victim of a grotesque act done only by people out of sanity. With a grieving heart and now an enraged soul, Armando takes shocking measures to avenge his loss, culminating in an act that will dare those who witness…
"Titus" features a stellar line up of casts that belongs from both showbiz and theater scene. Among the theater veterans are Shamaine Centenera-Buencamino, Mailes Kanapi, Paolo O' Hara, Paolo Cabanero, Arnold Reyes, Rolando Inocencio, Cris Pasturan, Nicco Manalo, JK Anicoche, Nar Cabico, Delphine Buencamino, Olive Nieto, JR Macanas, Julius Gareza and Eula Valdez.
Joining the show from the mainstream TV and Movie scene is Mike Tan who is believed to be a neophyte but actually already an old timer after doing Kabanata X back in 2009 as Elias for Tanghalang Pilipino's Noli Trilogy Kutsilyo, Pamaypay at Yantok with Ryza Cenon who played Salome. Not sure though if he did any after that but I would love to see him perform on a stage to know how good is his acting now compared before.
And lastly the main man of the show is given to an award winning actor who just received a Best Actor Award (Director's Showcase) from Cinemalaya 2011 for his magnificent performance in the film "Isda". He is none other than Mr. Bembol Roco.
Titus Andronicus is known for being one of the most violent plays ever made in the history of literature so I'm expecting that this Filipino version, will be more grotesque. And with the reputation of DUP, I know they are fearless and daring to show more than what people is expecting. I really hope they will surprise me.
With musical compositions of Vince De Jesus and Direction/Set Design by Tuxqs Rutaquio, Titus Andronicus:Tinarantadong Asintado premieres today September 14 and runs until October 2 at the Wilfrido ma. Guerrero Theater, 2nd floor, Palma Hall, U.P. Diliman, Quezon City. For ticket Inquiries call 0917-750-0107 or 926-1349 or email Cherry Edralin at this email: cherry_edralin888@yahoo.com.

I’m a little bit disappointed because I didn’t able to watch Rizal X but this November Dulaang UP is having another much awaited play entitled Noli Me Tangere: The Opera. Dulaang UP’s tribute to Rizal’s sesquicentenary and a pre-birth centennial tribute for National Artist Felipe de Leon.
